Tehran Intl. Press Festival kicks off
TEHRAN, Oct. 26(MNA) -- The 17th edition of the International Press Festival opened during a ceremony at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla on Monday evening.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of cultural officials including Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was scheduled to attend but his visit was canceled a few hours before the event.
Representatives of 55 foreign News Agencies, newspaper and periodicals are participating in the event, the secretariat of the festival announced.
However, Culture Minister Hosseini said that they have refused to invite some large foreign news media outlets to participate in the event, which is held annually by the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
“Due to the ongoing dissemination of negative propaganda against the sacred system of government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the foreign media has not been invited to participate in this festival,” he said.
A number of journalists and literary figures from Islamic countries are in attendance at the event that is running until November 1.
