Most of post-election convicts are remorseful: prosecutor
TEHRAN, Oct. 27 (MNA) – Tehran Prosecutor Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi said most of the prisoners who are convicted of involvement in the political unrest following the June 2009 presidential election have regretted their actions.
“I have met with all the convicts. Most of them are regretful about the path they had taken. We call on the families of the political prisoners to ask their children to turn back to the system and observe the law, and then it is possible to pardon them,” Jafari-Dolatabadi said on Thursday.
Jafari-Dolatabadi also announced that legal proceedings on seven cases of espionage are in the process.
The persons involved in these cases are several Iranians who have formed relationships with foreign intelligence services during their trips to foreign countries, he explained.
15 of these spies have received 10-15-year prison sentences and are currently held in prison.
Commenting on the recent letter of the banned Islamic Iran Participation Front to Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Jafari-Dolatabadi said on the court order this party is banned from continuing its political activities, so the members of this party can not hold meetings or engage in any other political activity.
Tehran prosecutor also confirmed that Mohammad Amin Hadavi, the son of the first Tehran prosecutor after the Islamic Revolution, has been arrested.
“Hadavi was arrested on security charges, but we can not give more information for security reasons,” he explained.
