Official complains about delay in implementing subsidy reform plan

TEHRAN, Oct. 27 (MNA) - Head of State Inspectorate Organization Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi criticized the administration for a delay in the implementation of the subsidy reform plan.

Even one-day delay in the implementation of the subsidy reform plan causes huge losses to the national economy, Pour-Mohammadi said on Tuesday.

“The State Inspectorate Organization asks why the implementation of the plan is delayed,” he said.

It seems that the officials are concerned about the repercussions of the implementation of the subsidy reform plan, but they should know that several months of instability following the implementation of the plan is natural and this problem can gradually be resolved with taking appropriate measures, he stated.

According to the parliament’s decision, the subsidy reform plan was to go into force at the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year which started on March 21; however, the administration announced that it was not yet ready and said it would implement the plan in the second half of the calendar year which started on September 23.

On October 19, the administration paid cash subsidies into the people’s accounts in the provinces of North Khorasan, South Khorsan and Khorasan Razavi. The administration also announced that people in other provinces would receive cash payments within two weeks and then the prices of the subsidized goods would be revised. However, since October 19 no special development has taken place in this regard and the lack of information on the details of the plan has caused worries among the people.

Subsidy reform plan envisages the elimination of the subsidies on fuel, energy, and certain goods over the course of five years. The administration has decided to pay cash subsidies for an undecided period of time to compensate low-income families for the inflationary repercussions of the plan.
