Iranian sculptor criticizes French officials for dismissive attitude

TEHRAN, Oct. 30 (MNA) -- Iranian sculptor Jamshid Moradian, who recently visited Île de la Cité, one of two natural islands on the Seine River within the city limits of Paris, lamented over the island’s officials’ dismissive manner toward Iranian artists.

“A new management has been appointed to Cité and the (Iranian) Visual Arts Center should talk to the new management about their officials’ rude manner of dealing with Iranian artists, and familiarize the officials with the Iranian artists’ perspective,” he told on Friday.

Moradian gave no other details about the dismissive manner.

Few weeks ago, Moradian was assigned by the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art to travel to Île de la Cité for a research project. A number of his works were also sent to a show on the island.

He was scheduled to make a sculpture from a dried tree to be installed on the island. However, the sculpture was never done due to a lack of cooperation from the local officials.

“I went to a forest and got a dried out pine tree to make the statue, but they told me that I had to cover all expenses for acquiring the necessary tools, while I was there to make the sculpture for them,” Moradian lamented.

He plans to obtain the necessary tools to make the statue next year.

However, he said that Cité has limited facilities and also, the French officials are subject to their own laws and never abnegate concerning their financial issues.
