Rumors over safety of Bushehr plant politically-motivated: official
TEHRAN, Oct. 31 (MNA) – Deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Naser Rastkhah,rejected claims by certain Arab media outlets about the safety of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, saying the media hype in this regard is politically-motivated.
“The fact that the media outlets want to raise concerns in this regard is a political issue and not a technical (issue),” Rastkhah said on Saturday.
Following the loading of nuclear fuel into the core of the Bushehr reactor last week, certain Arab media outlets claimed that the Bushehr nuclear power plant does not meet international safety standards.
Several safety officials from the Persian Gulf Arab states have visited the Bushehr plant over the past four years, and have been briefed on the scrupulous safety measures taken there, Rastkhah explained.
They have been also assured that the plant meets the international safety requirements, he added.
Rastkhah also said if Arab officials are willing to visit the Bushehr reactor, Iran is ready to remove their doubts about the safety of the nuclear activities carried out there.
