Iran’s Gharibpur to hold master classes for Georgian puppeteers

TEHRAN, Nov.1 (MNA) -- Iranian director Behruz Gharibpur was invited by the Tbilisi State University in the Georgian Republic to hold master classes on puppetry at the university.

Methods of staging opera puppet shows will be discussed during the 10-day sequence of master classes, which will begin on 24 January 2011, Gharibpur told on Sunday.

Gharibpur’s Aran Puppet Theater Group performed the “Rustam and Sohrab” opera puppet show at the Tbilisi Festival of Theater, which was held from September 29 to October 15.

“The persons, who are scheduled to participated in the master classes, have previously seen ‘Rustam and Sohrab’ in Tbilisi and have studied reviews on the opera puppet show,” Gharibpur said.

“There are many experts on puppetry in Georgia, but due to the lack of skills in staging opera puppet in the country, they have invited me to share my experience with them,” he explained.

In addition, Gharibpur is to assess the potential of Georgian artists in performing puppet shows. He plans to use his puppets and the films of the shows he has previously directed in the master classes.

According to Gharibpur, “Rustam and Sohrab” was warmly received by Georgian theatergoers and the Georgian press gave wide coverage to the opera puppet show during the Tbilisi Festival of Theater.

Gharibpur has previously staged the opera puppet shows “Macbeth”, “Ashura” and “Rumi” in Iran and at a number of foreign events.
