National Confidence Party still banned
TEHRAN, Nov. 2 (NMA) -- The National Confidence Party is still banned from conducting any activities, Judiciary spokesperson Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei said on Monday.
The fact that the owner of the party’s office can file a lawsuit to take back his property after it was sealed does not mean that the party can start operating again, he told at a press conference in Tehran.
Saeed Mortazavi has not been acquitted
Saeed Mortazavi’s case is under investigation and no ruling has been issued finding him guilty, but he has not been acquitted, Mohseni-Ejei stated.
Former Tehran prosecutor general Saeed Mortazavi was blamed for sending 147 inmates to the Kahrizak detention center on July 9, 2009.
According to the report of the parliamentary investigation into the Kahrizak incident, despite the fact that officials of Evin prison had announced that the facility had space for the detainees, Mortazavi insisted on sending the 147 detainees to Kahrizak, which is located south of Tehran.
The 147 inmates were held for four days in a 70-square-meter room without proper ventilation in the company of 30 hooligans, the parliamentary fact-finding committee said.
The detention center came into the spotlight after it was revealed that three inmates were beaten to death there. Mohsen Rouholamini, Mohammad Kamrani, and Amir Javadifar were the three men who died at Kahrizak.
The parliamentary fact-finding committee said the transfer of the detainees to Kahrizak on the orders of the Tehran prosecutor was “unjustified”.
All three U.S. citizens must stand trial
All three U.S. citizens who were arrested in Iran last year must be present in the country so that their trial can be held, Mohseni-Ejei said.
U.S. citizens Shane Bauer, 27, Sarah Shourd, 31, and Josh Fattal, 27, were arrested in July 2009 on suspicion of spying after they illegally entered Iran.
Shourd was released from prison on bail of $500,000.
On October 23, the three U.S. citizens’ attorney, Masoud Shafiee, said that their trial would be held on November 6 and that Shourd would not be required to attend the court session.
However, Mohseni-Ejei said all three must attend the trial because they were arrested on the same charges.
10 people arrested on charges of spying
Iran has arrested 10 people working for organizations affiliated to the country’s executive branch of government on charges of conducing espionage activities, Mohseni-Ejei said.
It is a fact that counter-revolutionary agents have managed to infiltrate into organizations affiliated to the country’s executive and judicial branches of government, and some people have been arrested for interacting with foreign intelligence agencies, he added.
Lawyer of detained German nationals arrested
Mohseni-Ejei said the lawyer of two German citizens who were arrested in Tabriz last month has himself been arrested on charges of interacting with counter-revolutionary elements based outside of the country.
The two German citizens, who had entered the country on tourist visas, were arrested for trying to interview the relatives of Sakineh Ashtiani.
Ashtiani has received the death sentence for committing murder and this sentence takes precedence over her conviction for committing adultery.
Mohseni-Ejei said the lawyer has three different ID cards and he has also been charged with forging documents.
