Dalai Lama calls for dialogue instead of violence to achieve peace

+

OSAKA, Nov. 7 Kyodo -
Exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Sunday called for dialogue
instead of violence in resolving conflicts during a speech at a peace
conference in Osaka held by a local youth group.
While attributing the cause of war and terrorist acts to a lack of compassion
among people, he urged the audience to promote a charitable society while
nurturing a peaceable attitude at the individual level.
Speaking before Japanese and non-Japanese students in the western Japanese
city, the spiritual leader said young people have the responsibility to act to
realize peace because just praying for peace is not enough.
The Dalai Lama said that Japan, as the only country in the world to have
suffered atomic bomb attacks, should assume leadership in global efforts to
abolish nuclear weapons.
He also urged Japanese youth to study English harder so that they can offer
their services in foreign countries as they are talented and have great
potential.
The speech was given at an event organized by the Junior Chamber International
Osaka.
