Iran’s 4th Intl. Cinéma Vérité Festival kicks off
TEHRAN, Nov. 9 (MNA) -- The 4th Cinéma Vérité Festival, an Iranian international event dedicated to documentary films, kicked off here on Sunday at Tehran’s Sepideh Theater Hall where the venue was also introduced as a theater dedicated to documentaries.
A group of cinematic figures including Deputy Culture Minister for Cinematic Affairs Javad Shamaqdari, Farabi Cinematic Foundation (FCF) Director Ahmad Mir-Alaii, Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) director Shafi Aqamohammadian, Managing Director of the Iranian House of Cinema Mohammad-Mehdi Asgarpur, Tehran’s Art Bureau director Mohsen Momeni and documentarians Mohammad Tahaminejad, Farhad Varahram, Rahbar Qanbari and Mehrdad Zahedian attended the ceremony.
DEFC director Aqamohammadian asked the officials to pay due attention to cultural unity in his opening speech.
“The center has prepared application forms for the filmmakers to fill out. They are asked to write down their suggestions and mention the names of the movies they would like to see screened in this theater,” he said.
Shamaqdari next said that documentary has long been of high priority for the Culture Ministry. He expressed hope that they could help promote Iranian documentary films.
“Documentaries enjoy a high position and are valuable for us like our cultural heritage, and we need to remove obstacles holding back progress in this field.
“We need to portray issues which are of great concern. The development of our country needs to be depicted in our documentaries. Our current features have nothing new to say, all are repetitious and we must breakdown the old system and look for a variety of new issues to focus upon,” he remarked.
Docs from different countries including Turkey, Sweden, Canada, U.S., Argentina, France, Germany, China and Brazil will go on screen during the festival that runs from November 8 to 12 in Tehran.
