ACD conference calls for empowerment of developing nations
TEHRAN, Nov. 10 (MNA) -- The Asia Cooperation Dialogue conference issued a statement calling for the creation of a global consensus on the alleviation of human socio-economic suffering and the empowerment of developing nations.
31 Asian countries attended the two-day conference which was held in Tehran.
The ACD is a forum created in 2002, which aims to promote cooperation among Asian countries and help integrate other regional cooperation organizations.

9th ACD Ministerial Meeting, 8-9 November 2010
"Toward Asian Solidarity and Integrity:
Promoting Prosperity Peace and Justice,”
We, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Head of Delegations of Member States of Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), namely the Kingdom of Bahrain; the People's Republic of Bangladesh; the Kingdom of Bhutan; Brunei Darussalam; the Kingdom of Cambodia; the People's Republic of China; the Republic of India; the Republic of Indonesia; the Islamic Republic of Iran; Japan; the Republic of Kazakhstan; the Republic of Korea; the State of Kuwait; the Kyrgyz Republic; the Lao People's Democratic Republic; Malaysia; Mongolia; the Union of Myanmar; the Sultanate of Oman; the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; the Republic of the Philippines; the State of Qatar; the Russian Federation; the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; the Republic of Singapore; the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka; the Republic of Tajikistan, the Kingdom of Thailand; the United Arab Emirates; the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, having gathered in Tehran, in the Islamic Republic of Iran for the 9th ACD Ministerial Meeting on 8-9 November 2010; declare as follows:
1. We reaffirm our commitment to continue pursuing the goals and objectives set out in the Declarations of the Ministerial Meetings in Cha Am (2002), Chiang Mai (2003), Qingdao (2004), Islamabad (2005), Doha (2006), Seoul (2007), Astana (2008) and Colombo (2009).
2. We have chosen as the theme for the 9th Ministerial Meeting in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, "Toward Asian Solidarity and Integrity:
Promoting Prosperity, Peace and Justice".
3. We had in-depth and productive discussions, exchanging information in the course of the meetings;
4. We express our determination to further consolidate and promote cooperation in Asia, while upholding peace, prosperity, solidarity, mutual respect and tolerance.
5. We stand for building in Asia a more effective architecture of cooperation including on social, energy and food security and others based on multilateralisl1), equality, international law and due consideration of legitimate interests of all states.
6. We commit ourselves to promoting networking in Asia and strengthening bonds between the ACD and other regional organizations and fora with a view to enhancing mutual trust and economic cooperation as one of the core goals of the ACD.
7. We reaffirm our commitment to encourage dialogue and promote understanding toward forging a desirable and conducive environment for higher standards of living among our nations as well as to aim at reaching a global consensus in alleviating human socio-economic sufferings and empowering developing nations in all spheres of life.
8. The global economic crisis that erupted in 2008 has had dramatic socio-economic/environmental and political consequences for all countries. To tackle the crisis that has spread across the globe since 2008, ACD, as a mechanism of Asian countries, should continue to consider measures
to address the impact of the crisis on Member Countries that are already suffering its negative effects.
9. Although the crisis is affecting all developing countries} thanks to improved policies and past experiences} their resilience to global economic shocks is stronger than before.
10. The serious social consequences of financial crisis which are giving rise to extreme poverty, high increase in unemployment, alarming decline in remittances and decrease in funding for safety nets are among the issues being considered in Asian countries.
11. We also recognize the effects of global economic crisis and recession on trade and investment in A€D Countries; its possible impact on future agricultural growth and poverty reduction; and the ways for meeting the energy and food needs of our people.
12. We believe that, in addition to restoring confidence in the financial system and countervailing the fall of global demand, we should also continue our efforts to improve investment climate for the private sector. Supporting private sector is expected to help improve future growth and recovery prospects in our countries.
13. We are confident that priority should be given to the areas of building trust and predictability in the financial system, strengthening financial regulations, increasing cooperation among central bank, development of financial sector to support economic growth, encouraging trade and investment by avoiding protectionism, promoting FDI, revitalizing industry and agriculture and focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
14. We endorse the report of the Prime & Co-Prime Mover Consultations Meeting.
15. While expressing our appreciation to the Government of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka for rendering able leadership and for constructive efforts in promoting ACD objectives during its Chairmanship, we wish the Government of Islamic Republic of Iran every success during the Chairmanship.
16. We accept the gracious offer of the State of Kuwait to host the 10th Ministerial Meeting in 2011.
