Vientiane Mayor visits Thongpond group development village

(KPL) Dr Sinlavong Khoutphaythoun, the mayor of Vientiane and his delegation visited the Thongpond group development villages to monitor the silk weaving industry on 1 August.

Mr Sithon Khounsisavath, chief of this group of villages said, "Thongpong's land area is 1,274,315 square metres, it has 884 families, and it has 4,677 people. In order to develop the village, there are currently five work plans, six projects and 36 activities. The sum of 27 million kip is being used to fund these projects. The state contributed 93.6 per cent and the fund society gave 6.4 percent. To my mind it has a success rate of 77.6 percent."

He added that dry season rice is being cultivated and the total acreage is 9.5 hectares. The total output is 3 to 3.5 tons per hectare.

During his visit Dr Sinlavong told the authorities and concerned bodies to strengthen the finance of their families, to upgrade the roads of the village and to grow crops for sale.
