Sony to Take Full Control of Music Arm
Tokyo, Aug. 6 (Jiji Press)--Sony Corp. <6758> said Tuesday it has
agreed to take full control of its fifty-fifty music software joint venture with Germany's Bertelsmann AG.
The Japanese electronics maker will acquire the remaining stake in
Sony BMG Music Entertainment from Bertelsmann this autumn for some 900 million dollars.
The move reflects Sony's efforts to strengthen its content
business, while allowing Bertelsmann to focus on its publishing and
broadcasting operations.
Sony BMG was set up in 2004 following the integration of the two
companies' music divisions.
