OANA members to meet in Istanbul
ISTANBUL , Nov. 24 (MNA) – The Executive Board (EB) Meeting, the Editorial-Technical Experts Group (ETEG) Meeting, and the General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) will commence today in Istanbul.
More than 60 distinguished leaders and representatives of the news agencies from around the world as well as OANA members are gathered in Istanbul, the culture capital of Europe in 2010 to discuss their news agency’s outlook for the next ten years.
On the theme of “Where and in what shape do you see your news agency in 10 years time?” the meeting will last for four days.
The Turkish leading national wire service, Anadolu Agency, which is marking its 90th anniversary of its foundation, is the host agency of the OANA General Assembly, EB and ETEG meetings.
Three Iranian delegations – the Mehr News Agency (MNA), IRNA, and the Fars News Agency – delegations from Chinese Xinhua News Agency, Japanese Kyodo News Agency, the Information Telegraph Agency of Russia (Itar-Tass), the Australian Associated Press (APP), the Indonesian Antara News Agency, and the Malaysian Bernama News Agency are among the participates of the congress.
The third day of the meeting is scheduled to be held with the participation of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of State and Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc.
A number of Turkish ministers, high-ranking officials, and elites will also attend sessions of the four-day event.
The selected photos taken by the news agencies member to the OANA will also be put on display on the sidelines of the event. Three selected photos by the Mehr News Agency in the categories of politics, sports, and environment will be put on show at the exhibition.
Visits to Istanbul ’s cultural and historical sites such as Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia Museum , Topkapi Palace and Grand Bazaar are among the programs of the fourth day.
The OANA 31st Executive Board Meeting (EBM) and the 25th Editorial-Technical Experts Group (ETEG) Meeting was held in Tehran November 2009. On the theme of “A Quest for Global Media Balancing”, the meeting was attended by about 40 OANA representatives. The Mehr News Agency was the host agency of the meeting.
The OANA Summit Congress was also held in Seoul in April 2010, on the theme of "Challenges and opportunities for news agencies."
