Japan lawmakers adopt resolution condemning N. Korea+
TOKYO, Nov. 26 Kyodo -
Lawmakers from both chambers of Japan's Diet adopted on Friday a resolution
strongly condemning North Korea for its deadly artillery attack on a South
Korean island earlier this week.
The resolution, adopted during the plenary sessions of both the House of
Councillors and House of Representatives, denounced North Korea for committing
''indiscriminate, outrageous acts of violence'' Tuesday by bombarding
residential areas on Yeonpyeong Island, saying Japan finds Pyongyang's ''armed
provocation which has also affected civilians totally unacceptable.''
Following the adoption of the resolution, Prime Minister Naoto Kan told
parliament, ''We will continue to gather information and firmly deal (with the
North Korean crisis) by cooperating with nations concerned such as South Korea
and the United States'' through various channels such as on the stage of the
United Nations.
The resolution also expressed condolences to the South Korean government and
public.
The resolution urged North Korea to abandon its provocative acts and nuclear
ambitions as well as to resolve the long-standing issue of North Korea's past
abductions of Japanese nationals.
It also called on the Japanese government to give its full support to South
Korea, and work together with South Korea and other relevant nations to boost
international pressure on the North.
