The Basij is unique in the world, Leader says
TEHRAN, Nov. 27 (MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called the Basij a disciplined and organized body and said no group in the world has as many members as the Basij.
“In terms of numbers, no organization in the world is comparable to the Basij,” the Supreme Leader told 110,000 Basijis at a gathering in east Tehran on Thursday on the occasion of Id al-Qadir.
Id al-Ghadir is the anniversary commemorating the last sermon of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his household) at Ghadir Khumm on Dhul Hijjah 18, in the year 10 AH. It is celebrated mainly by Shias, who regard it as confirmation that Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) was to succeed Prophet Muhammad (S).
The Leader said the Basij is a unique, unrivalled and brilliant organization in the world.
Pointing out that men and women, old and young, and people from all walks of life are members of the Basij, he said, “(The fact that) all Iranian ethnic groups, students and scholars, pupils and teachers, clergymen, workers, farmers, businessmen… are members shows the inclusiveness of this great and unique organization.”
However, the Leader said what is more important is that the Basij is based on faith and compassion and it can solve the nation’s problems in difficult days.
He also said Basijis should be thankful to God for being members of such a great organization.
To be a true Basiji requires vigilance, he noted.
He also said it is very important that Basijs are involved in various activities.
Basijs have performed marvelously on the battlefield, but they have also been pioneers in every other field in which they have been involved in primarily because of their purity, faith, bravery and innovation, the Supreme Leader added.
He also said Basijis are some of the most successful people in scientific fields.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei described the congregation of 110,000 Basijis as a manifestation of the fragrant garden of the Basij, saying, “Our great imam (Imam Khomeini) created this garden through his wisdom and deep thinking and irrigated it in a such a way, through his words and manner, that it became more vibrant and more productive day by day.”
