Electricity shortages leave blackouts across nation
Hanoi (VNA) - Power supplies are still running short all over the
country, according to Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).
The EVN announced on August 4 that the country's maximal electricity consumption was estimated to increase to 12,000-12,500 MW per day, while the EVN's electricity system could supply just 11,000 MW. As a result, the country has been running short by between 1,000 and 1,500 MW during peak hours.
EVN attributed the shortage to troubles in the operation of some new power plants. For example, the Ca Mau Power Plant No. 1 will need to stop all its turbine groups for repairs from August 18-19.
The Ca Mau Power Plant No 2 is working only on a trial basis with a
capacity of just 150 MW.
The No 1 turbine group of the Nhon Trach Power Plant has been producing just 150 MW a day. Meanwhile, the expanded Uong Bi Power Plant experienced some problems, and has been undergoing repairs since May 18.
The Phu My 2.2 Power Plant also had to stop two turbine groups for
repairs.
