It is impossible to deny nations’ rights through resolutions: Larijani
TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (MNA)-- Iran’s Majlis speaker Ali Larijani stated on Monday that it is not possible to deprive countries of their rights by approving “unilateral and discriminatory” resolutions.
Talking at the 5th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Damascus, Larijani said by respecting international law and nations’ rights, the APA should fight against discrimination and double-standard approaches in the world.
He added that adopting common laws by Asian parliaments was one of the main aims of the APA from the beginning of its formation.
Larijani called the APA the most democratic organization in Asia which has a high potential in promoting peace and security, fighting poverty and corruption, and facilitating economic cooperation in areas of energy, environment, and tourism.
He went on to say that Asia faces three major problems: the first one is internal problem the most important of which is the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian lands; the second one is a lack of coordination among Asian countries; and the third one is the negative competition among some Asian states.
He further called for unity among Asian states to solve problems, saying some Asian countries try to undermine others instead of using each other’s potential and this should be avoided.
APA conference will address several issues including support for the Palestinian people, declaration of friendship, the realization of health justice in Asia, challenges caused by globalization, campaign against corruption, the increase of cooperation among Asian parliaments and governments, information and communication technology, the effects of global economic crisis on the economies of the APA member states, energy conditions, massive tree planting, respect for cultural diversity, and campaign against poverty and terrorism.
Representatives from 41 Asian countries have attended the four-day conference entitled “The Role of the Asian Parliaments in Achieving Security, Stabilization and Peace in the Middle East Region”.
