Iranian mariners to honor translator Najaf Daryabandari
TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (MNA) -- The Iranian Merchant Mariners’ Syndicate will hold a commemoration ceremony for renowned Iranian translator Najaf Daryabandari.
During the ceremony, the syndicate will present a replica of Darius the Great’s Suez Inscriptions to the author.
Najaf is the son of Captain Khalaf Daryabandari, one of the first marine pilots of Iran so he is a member of mariners’ family, the syndicate director Mohammad Vaferifar told .
He has translated many books on the theme of the sea including Ernest Hemingway’s ‘The Old Man and the Sea’ and in this way, he has introduced Iranians with mariners’ life, he mentioned.
“Regarding his illness, this is the only chance we had to honor him for all his achievements in his career,” he added.
Najaf Daryabandari, 81, was hospitalized in May 2010 because of a stroke. He was in the ICU but was discharged after three weeks.
The syndicate and the Association of Iranian Documentary Producers will sign an agreement for holding a photo and film festival on seafarers that will be supported financially by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The commemoration ceremony is cosponsored by Cinema Theater Monthly and the Association of Iranian Documentary Producers.
Persian translations of Hemingway’s “A Farewell to Arms” and “The Old Man and the Sea”, William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” and “As I Lay Dying”, Bertrand Russell’s “A History of Western Philosophy” and “Power”, are among his credits.
