West behind recent terror acts in Tehran, Iran says
TEHRAN, Dec. 1 (MNA) -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said the West should be held responsible for the recent terrorist acts in Tehran.
On Monday, two prominent physicists were targeted by terrorists in two separate bombings. Professor Majid Shahriari was killed and Professor Fereydoun Abbasi Davani was injured in the attacks. The two academics were both on their way to work at Shahid Beheshti University in northern Tehran when they were attacked. The police say that in both attacks, terrorists riding motorcycles attached magnetic bombs to the physicists’ cars.
“In regard to the recent terrorist acts, the main suspects are Western countries, the so-called upholders of human rights, and (they) use this (the human rights issue) as a tool to put political pressure on independent countries,” Mehmanparast said during his weekly press briefing on Tuesday.
Monday’s terrorist incidents in particular are perhaps the work of the British intelligence agency MI6, he noted.
WikiLeaks’s claims are baseless
In response to claims made by WikiLeaks that Arab leaders have asked the United States to attack Iran, Mehmanparast said the enemy is seeking to undermine relations between Iran and other regional countries.
WikiLeaks recently published a document claiming that Arab leaders urged the United States to launch a strike against Iran in order to halt its nuclear program.
The Iranophobia being promoted by the West will benefit the Zionist regime and its supporters, he said, adding that regional countries should be vigilant about this trap.
Asked about U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s claim that the WikiLeaks document shows Arabs are worried about Iran’s nuclear program, he said the fact that Clinton chose only this particular document from among the thousands of documents shows they are dubious.
“In our view, it would have been impossible to disclose those documents without getting permission from the West and U.S. intelligence agencies,” he stated.
Use of false name for Persian Gulf will discredit U.S.
The U.S. Navy’s use of a false name for the Persian Gulf will put the credibility of the United States and the international community into question, Mehmanparast stated.
The U.S. Navy has recently instructed all its units and forces to use the “Arab Gulf” rather than its original and real name, the Persian Gulf.
When some U.S. officials use a false name for the Persian Gulf, despite the numerous historical records that show this is the true name, it really affects Iranians’ feelings, but it affects the credibility of the United States and the international community more, Mehmanparast added.
