Iran, Russia ink cultural MOU
TEHRAN, Dec.1 (MNA) -- Culture ministers of Iran and Russia inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) here on Monday at Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Aleksejevits Avdejev leading a delegation arrived here in Tehran on Monday morning.
Iran’s culture minister Mohammad Hosseini regarded Iran-Russia relations as warm and mutually beneficial, expressing hopes that the visit by the Russian minister would help enhance bilateral ties.
“This MOU signed today will be a good start for Iranian-Russian cultural exchange,” Hosseini said, inviting his Russian counterpart and artists to attend Iran’s Fajr film and theater festivals.
“The Iranian people are fairly familiar with Russian literature and culture. Novels and literary works by Russian authors are translated into Persian and there are many students from Iran who are currently studying at Russian universities.
“We would also like to make increased use of your expertise in museum administration in our country”, Hosseini added.
Next, he continued, “Iran is not following Hollywood in film production. We have our own national culture and values and we are prepared to hold an Iran film week in Moscow.”
Iranian culture is of special interest among Russian researchers, and museums and libraries are most willing to preserve Persian manuscripts and artifacts, said Russian Minister Avdejev.
Persian luminaries such as Sadi and Khayyam are being introduced to children in school, he said.
Avdejev also said that both countries need to assist one another in protecting cultural identity. “We warmly welcome the idea of expanding cultural exchange between our countries.”
Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg and Alexander Sedov, director of the State museum of Oriental Art in Moscow are accompanying the minister.
The minister will be also meeting the director of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Mohammad-Baqer Khorramshad.
