BI EXPECTS BANKS TO SUPPORT AGROBUSINESS SECTOR
Jakarta, Aug 7 (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (the central bank/BI) expects domestic banks to extend more loans to the agrobusiness sector which it said is one of the main engines of the national economy.
"We need appropriate and responsive strategies to manage and develop the agricultural sector to make it stronger," BI Senior Deputy Governor Miranda S Goeltom said on Thursday.
A stronger agricultural sector would not only help ease the risks of global food price hikes but also contribute to economic growth in the future, she said.
Commenting on various formidable challenges in the agricultural sector, she said the development of infrastructure facilities in the agricultral sector was imperative and inevitable.
"Of course, this must be the responsibility of the government. Therefore, it must have strong commitment and set aside adequate budget to that effect," she said.
