Some IAEA inspectors are spies: intelligence minister

TEHRAN, Dec. 5 (MNA)-- Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi said that some IAEA inspectors who have been assigned to visit Iran’s nuclear facilities are agents of the Western countries’ intelligence services.

“The International Atomic Energy Agency should explain why it sends some spies of the Western intelligence services to Iran as experts,” Moslehi told reporters on Saturday.

Iran has frequently expressed displeasure at the leakage of its nuclear information by IAEA officials.

The intelligence minister’s remarks came just ahead of the upcoming high-profile talks between Iran and the major powers (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) scheduled to be held in Geneva on Dec. 6-7.

Western leaders have expressed hope that talks will mark re-engagement with Iran over its nuclear program. But, Iranian officials insist that the international issues should be discussed during talks.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Moslehi pointed to the recent terrorist attacks in Tehran which targeted two prominent nuclear scientists.

“The Western intelligence services hired the mercenaries of the bankrupt Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) to carry out the recent assassinations,” he noted.
