‘Talks with 5+1 should be based on Iran’s package of proposals’
TEHRAN, Dec. 5 (MNA)-- Majlis Foreign Policy and National Security Committee Chairman said the upcoming talks between Tehran and the 5+1 group (the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany) should be based on Iran’s package of proposals.
Iran’s package of proposals addresses a range of global issues facing the international community including global nuclear disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation.
“The base for negotiations in Geneva is the Islamic Republic’s package of proposals,” Alaeddin Boroujerdi told on Saturday.
Talks between Iran and the major powers will resume on December 6 in Geneva after a 15-month hiatus. Catherine Ashton, the European Union foreign policy chief, will represent the 5+1 group. Iran is also represented by Supreme National Security Council secretary Saeed Jalili.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has expressed its readiness to hold talks with the group. We hope that this time the United States would realize the new realities about the Islamic Republic and (Iran’s) new nuclear achievements,” Boroujerdi said.
Iran is also hopeful that the talks would end the current deadlock in relations between Iran and the West and set the stage for interaction with the West in a new environment, the top legislator noted.
