67 drug gangs smashed: police
TEHRAN, Dec. 6 (MNA)-- Police smashed 67 gangs of drug smugglers and arrested more than 1,341 drug traffickers in the first 8 months of the current Iranian year, police official Alireza Akbarshahi said on Sunday.
Over 13,408 kilograms of different types of narcotics have been seized from smugglers, Akbarshahi, Tehran Province police chief, told a press conference.
Akbarshahi added just over the last two weeks, over 2 tons of different types of narcotics have been seized in Karaj - a city in the vicinity of Tehran - and five big drug gangs smashed. 16 drug traffickers have been arrested and 14 automobiles confiscated in these operations, he explained.
