TWO SINGAPOREANS ARRESTED IN TANJUNGPINANG FOR DRUG CONSUMPTION

Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, August 7 (ANTARA) - Police arrested two Singaporeans who were consuming "shabu-shabu" (crystalamphetamine) in a hotel room here recently.

The two foreigners, identified by their initials as JK and SP, were caught together with an Indonesian, identified as TJ, Tanjungpinang police chief Adj Sr Com Yusri Yunus said here Thursday.

At the crime scene, police found 0.10 grams of the drug which were confiscated as evidence.

Meanwhile, police were having difficulty questioning JK because the suspect had a hearing problem.

Police said drugs circulating in Tanjungpinang had most probably come from Batam which was linked to Tanjungpinang by a daily ferry service that enabled anybody to cover the distance in only one hour's time.

But it was also possible the drugs originated in Singapore or Malaysia which were geographically not so far away from Tanjungpinang, police said.
