G5+1 should change confrontational policy: top legislator
TEHRAN, Dec. 6 (MNA) -- Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi called on the Western countries, especially the United States, to change their confrontational approach toward Tehran.
The remarks by Boroujerdi came as Iran and the 5+1 group (the United States, Russia, China, and Britain, France and Germany) resumed talks today in Geneva after a 15-month hiatus.
Talking to reporters on Monday, Boroujerdi said Iran’s first precondition for resuming talks was that the 5+1 group drops its hostile approach toward Tehran.
“If the G5+1 group and the West repeat their previous mistakes in the new round of talks, again no result will be achieved. Therefore, I advise the U.S. and the West to change their approach and accept the realities.”
Boroujerdi added, “If the West and G5+1… raise illegitimate demands on Iran regarding its nuclear rights, they will get nowhere.”
The U.S. and its allies have always been seeking to halt Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities but they have never obtained their goals, he noted.
The senior lawmaker also stated that Iran has always been cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency within the framework of its commitments.
