KPU ADMITS VOTERS' DATA NOT MAXIMALLY PROCESSED
Jakarta, Aug 7 (ANTARA)- The process of issuing up-to-date data on voters for 2009 legislative general election was not maximally conducted, consequently the provisional list of eligible voters (DPS) will not be much different from the population data, a general election official said.
I Gusti Putu Artha, a member of the General Election Commission (KPU) said here Thursday the electoral body had found it difficult to collect up-to-date data among other things due to the incomplete population data provided by the government.
Almost all regional KPUs had complained about the obsolete population data submitted by the government, he said, adding that the DPS was expected to be announced on Friday (Aug 8).
"Allocated period of three months is not enough for collection of up-to-date data," he said in a discussion here.
"DPS which will be announced on Friday must be bad, and it will not be much different from the population data which was handed by the government (to KPU) on April 5, 2008," he said.
According to him, KPU cannot postpone the schedule to announce the DPS from August 8 to 14, 2008.
Although the DPS cannot meet the expectation, there is an opportunity to correct it, he added.
