Iran criticizes UN for inaction on terrorist attacks in Tehran
TEHRAN, Dec. 12 (MNA) -- Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammad Khazaei, criticized UN officials for not adopting a proper stance on the recent terrorist attacks on two Iranian nuclear scientists.
On November 29, two prominent physicists were targeted by terrorists in two separate bombings. Professor Majid Shahriari was killed and Professor Fereydoun Abbasi Davani was injured in the attacks. The two academics were both on their way to work at Shahid Beheshti University in northern Tehran when they were attacked. The police say that in both incidents, terrorists riding motorcycles attached magnetic bombs to the physicists’ cars.
Khazaei made the statement in an open letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, General Assembly President Joseph Deiss, and UN Security Council President Susan Rice.
In the beginning of the letter, he strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks on the Iranian scientists and described the actions as “cruel, inhuman, and criminal acts.”
He also called on UN officials to adopt a proper stance on these terrorist actions.
Iran expects UN officials to fulfill their “responsibilities to condemn these inhumane terrorist acts and to take effective steps for the elimination of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” he said.
In addition, Khazaei wrote that the Zionists masterminded these terrorist acts in order to disrupt Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, but such actions and political and economic pressure cannot dissuade the Iranian nation from upholding their nuclear rights.
He also stated that Iran would not compromise on its inalienable nuclear rights.
