Israel on verge of collapse, ayatollah tells Palestine convoy
TEHRAN, Dec. 13 (MNA) -- The Zionist regime is on the verge of collapse, Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirzai said in a meeting with the members of the Asian People’s Solidarity for Palestine convoy in Qom on Sunday.
The senior cleric said the decision to impose a siege on Gaza was an unwise move that ruined the reputation of the Zionist throughout the world.
Ayatollah Makarem Shirzai said the Palestine convoy’s action would be remembered in history forever.
Members of the aid convoy also met with Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli on Sunday.
Ayatollah Javadi Amoli said helping the Gazans is of utmost importance and should be a priority of Islamic countries.
He also stated that Iranian media outlets should cover this great effort so that the entire world becomes aware of it.
The members of the humanitarian aid convoy began their journey to the besieged territory of Gaza in India, traveled through Pakistan, and then arrived in Sistan-Baluchestan Province in southern Iran on Wednesday. They entered Kerman Province on Thursday, traveled to Yazd Province, and arrived in Isfahan on Friday. They will continue their journey through Tehran, Zanjan, and Tabriz and then cross into Turkey.
The convoy is composed of people from different religions from India, Pakistan, Japan, Indonesia, Nepal, and Iran, including veterans from a number of wars.
In addition, there are some people in the convoy who were injured in Israel’s attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in spring 2010.
On May 31, 2010, the Israeli military attacked six ships of the Gaza flotilla. The flotilla, organized by the Free Gaza Movement and the Turkish Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (IHH), was carrying humanitarian assistance for Gaza. Nine activists were killed (eight Turkish nationals and a young man who had dual Turkish and U.S. citizenship).
The international community condemned the deadly attack and Israel-Turkey relations were seriously strained.
The Zionist regime imposed an economic siege on Gaza in June 2007 that has caused great hardship for the people of the territory.
