POLICE TO HAND MUNIR MURDER SUSPECT MUCHDI TO PROSECUTORS SOON
Jakarta, Aug 8 (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri)'s Criminal Investigation Department will soon hand over Muchdi PR, a suspect in the murder of human rights activist Munir, to the Attorney General's Office for immediate prosecution, a police ' spokesman said.
"The suspect and pieces of evidence are likely to be handed over to the Attorney General's Office (AGO) on Monday, August 11," Insp Gen Abubakar Nataprawira, the Polri Headquarters' infomration officer, said here Friday.
He said the AGO had declared the dossier on Muchdi complete (P21) so that the police investigators now had the obligation to hand over the suspect and the evidence.
"After the suspect has been handed over to the AGO, the police have completed their task in the case and what remains to be done is to wait for the court trial," he added.
Polri had been detaining Muchdi at the detention house of the Police's Mobile Brigade Unit in Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java, since June 20, 2008 for alleged involvement in Munir's murder.
Munir was poisoned aboard a Garuda plane enroute from Jakarta to Amsterdam after a transit in Singapore on September 7, 2008.
Former Garuda pilot Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto was sentenced to 20 years in jail after he was found guilty of murdering Munir by putting arsenic in the latter's drink.
Former Garuda president director Indra Setiawan was sentenced to one year imprisonment for complicity in the murder.
