Iran finishes fourth in Asian Para Games

GUANGZHOU, Dec. 20 (MNA) -- Iran wrapped up its presence at 2010 Asian Para Games with 80 medals, finishing fourth behind China, Japan and South Korea respectively.

The Iranian athletes claimed 27 gold medals, 24 silvers and 27 bronzes in the event.

Iran also finished fourth at the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China a few weeks ago.

During the course of the Asian Para Games a total of 1,020 medals were awarded and 32 countries managed to get onto the podium at some point.

China topped the medal table with 391 medals, 185 of which were gold.

Japan came second with 103 medals including 32 gold medals, and South Korea finished third with 27 golds and 103 medals in total.

A total of 2,512 athletes, 1,286 officials, 1,096 technical officials of delegations from 41 countries and regions of Asia and 2,558 journalists from 185 media outlets took part in the Asian Para Games.

74 athletes from 13 delegations broke 82 Asian records 74 times, 31 delegations shared medals, and more than 470,000 spectators attended the Asian Para Games.

Since hosting the world at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, Team China has won 1,118 medals.

The Asian Para Games was held in Guangzhou from December 12 to 19 two weeks after the conclusion of The 16th Asian Games.
