Kuwait hails Iran’s Salehi for his foreign policy priority
TEHRAN, Dec. 21 (MNA) -- The Kuwaiti foreign minister appreciated Iranian acting Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi for saying he will prioritize relations with neighboring and Islamic countries.
Sheikh Muhammad Sabah al-Salim al-Sabah made the remarks in Kuwait late on Sunday before heading for a three-leg tour of African countries of Tunisia, Egypt, and Sudan.
Commenting on Salehi’s foreign policy priority to develop special diplomatic relations with Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Sabah said, “This approach will mark a new chapter in relations among neighbors and other issues.”
At a ceremony on Saturday in which he was officially introduced as the Islamic Republic’s acting foreign minister, Salehi said given the current situation in the region and the international arena, the promotion of relations with neighboring states and Islamic countries must be prioritized.
The promotion of political cooperation with Saudi Arabia and Turkey is of special significance, Salehi stated.
In a decree issued on December 13, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dismissed Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki from his post and appointed Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Director Ali Akbar Salehi as acting foreign minister. Ahmadinejad gave no explanation for the decision.
