Dutch ambassador visits Tehran museum
TEHRAN, Dec. 21 (MNA) -- Ambassador of the Netherlands to Tehran Cees J. Kole visited the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) on Sunday and held talks with TMCA director Mahmud Shaluii.
The museum is currently displaying works by two major pioneers of Iranian modern painting, Mahmud Javadipur and Ahmad Esfandiari.
This is a great exhibit in which a combination of Iranian identity, culture and authenticity are observed, giving every visitor feelings of peace and comfort, said Dutch ambassador.
Persian art and culture enjoys a wide range of variety in different fields, the ambassador said, adding that the people of his country show great interest in Persian art and culture.
On the journey I made to Isfahan, Shiraz and Yazd, I saw obvious examples of Persian identity in paintings, calligraphy and music, the Dutch ambassador added.
He remarked that many museums in the Netherlands would like to collaborate with the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art and develop closer relations.
Cees J. Kole also said that Dutch sculptor and artist Gerard Caris (March 1925) has expressed his willingness to hold an exhibit in Iran.
TMCA loaned the painting “Trinidad Fernandez” by Dutch artist Kees van Dongen (1877-1968) at the request of the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam in November. The artwork is on display as part of a 4-month show arranged by the museum under the title “All eyes on Kees van Dongen”.
Shaluii next talked about the current show at the museum and said that the two veterans have created invaluable works and are continuing to work despite their age.
Working steadily for 70 years, Esfandiari (born in 1922) is from the first generation of Iranian pioneers of art and he still experiments within his style and technique.
Javadipur (1920) created the logos for Bank Markazi, the Iranian National Oil Company, UNESCO Publications and Kharazmi Publications.
“Iranian artists have been able to link the art of past generations with the modern art of today and have been doing this successfully in the international arena,” Shaluii said.
He also said that the Dutch artist Gerard Caris would be invited to attend the seminar on the Fajr International Visual Arts Festival this year in February to discuss future exhibits in Iran.
