Iranian Speaker says Majlis must give serious response to Britain
TEHRAN, Dec. 22 (MNA) -- Majlis must give a serious response to the British government for its hostile stance toward Iran, Iran`s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday.
Larijani’s remarks came after MP Mahdi Kouchakzadeh criticized the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee for not making a decision on a plan to downgrade ties with Britain after more than 10 months.
Larijani said that the Majlis security committee has made its decision, it is not in the final stage, though.
On Sunday, the committee voted to completely cut diplomatic ties with Britain.
The decision made at Sunday’s session was submitted to the Majlis presiding board.
Last year, the committee urged the Foreign Ministry to reduce the level of diplomatic relations with the British government due to its hostile attitude toward Iran and its interference in Iran’s internal affairs.
Iran has been enraged by Britain’s interference in its internal affairs including its support for the post-election unrest last year and harboring some opposition groups. Britain’s ambassador has also written an article on his website claiming human rights violation in Iran.
