Iran`s non-oil exports to U.S. increase 50%

TEHRAN, Dec. 22 (MNA) –- The director of the Trade Promotion Organization in Iran claimed that the export of non-oil commodities to the U.S. increased by 50 percent in 1388 (ended March 21, 2010).

Hamid Safdel said on Tuesday that non-oil exports to the U.S. had doubled in the end of the Iranian calendar year of 1388 compared to the beginning of the country’s Fourth Development Plan (2005).

He stated that in that year Iran exported $179 million worth of non-oil products to the U.S. and this year the Islamic Republic’s exports have amounted to $268 million.

The TPOI director said that also the weight of the commodities exported to the U.S. had doubled during last time and went up from 38,000 tons to 79,000 tons.

The main items exported from Iran to the U.S. include rugs, saffron, pistachio, tiles and fruit juice, he said.

Safdel pointed out that Iranian exports to that continent in an eight month period beginning March 21, 2009 and ending November 21 increased from $152 million to $224 million compared to the same period in 2010.
