Iran, Iraq to found joint industrial townships on borders

TEHRAN, Dec. 23 (MNA) –- The Iranian government agreed to found two joint industrial townships on borders with Iraq in line with its policy to enhance relations with neighboring states.

The new townships will be built near Mehran in Ilam Province and Shalamcheh in Khuzestan Province.

Months ago the Iranian first vice president stated in a joint cooperation meeting between Iran and Iraq that trade relations between the two countries have not been strong despite all the efforts made in this regard.

Mohammad-Reza Rahimi said that border markets should be established between the two countries to enhance trade and create jobs.

Rahimi said that taking these measures will be a huge step in boosting economic ties between the two countries.
