TEHRAN, Dec. 23 (MNA) -- The exhibition “Iran, Land of Worship” was inaugurated Tuesday in Munich in the presence of Iranian and German cultural officials.
A selection of Persian paintings, typography, calligraphy, photography, and artistic bookbindings created by Iranian masters are on display for two months at the Postplatz in Munich.
Master of art and Islamic architecture Mahmud Maheronnaqsh, master of calligraphy Mohammad Salahshur, veteran photographer Fakhreddin Fakhreddini and scholar Abdolmajid Hosseini, as well as the chairman of the German Bundestag’s foreign affairs Peter Gauweiler attended the opening ceremony.
In his opening speech, Iran’s ambassador to Berlin Alireza Sheikhattar referred to the historical relations between Iran and Germany and regarded the exhibit as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties.
Peter Gauweiler next talked about cultural relations between Iran and Germany and said that children of his age grew up with the stories ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ and know Shahrzad, the narrator in the story of ‘One Thousand and One Nights’.
He also said that his country pays strict attention to culture and considers it of major concern in foreign policy.
Iranian head of the exhibition’s organizing council Mohammad-Hassan Barzin, also present at the ceremony, regarded the event as a chance for further dialogue.
He called the spirit of Islamic art a manifestation of truth in the world, and said that aesthetics in Islamic art is secondary and the main point in Islamic art is to transfer the divine message to people.
The ceremony was brought to an end with a performance of an Iranian passion play tazieh by Mohsen Mirza-Ali as well as the unveiling of a large seven-color tilework bearing the name of Imam Ali (AS) created by master Maheronnaqsh.
