Severe punishment for meth manufacturers in Iran

TEHRAN, Dec. 26 (MNA) -- Crystal meth manufacturers will receive capital punishment similar to other drug manufacturers, said Hamid Reza Hossein-Abadi, Iranian commander of the anti-drug squad of the Law Enforcement Forces.

The commander noted police’s main problem in dealing with psychoactive drugs was the absence of clear law in this regard.

However, the Expediency Council has ratified a new law about synthetic drugs, especially crystal meth, the commander pointed out.

If those addicted to the synthetic drugs fail to enlist in a drug rehabilitation center will be considered as criminals and forced to enlist.

The increase in the number of persons who use psychoactive drugs indicates the dangerously increasing public access to these drugs in the country, he said.

Meanwhile, Judiciary official Hossein Zebhi stated on Saturday that possession of more than 30 grams of synthetic drugs carries capital punishment.

Talking to reporters in Kerman, Zebhi said that those who keep, use, manufacture, import, and traffic synthetic drugs will face severe punishment.
