Iranian translator plans to publish Irish woman’s letters to her parents
TEHRAN, Dec. 26 (MNA) -- Iranian translator Mohammad Qa’ed is currently working on a collection of letters by an Irish woman sent from the Iranian city of Kerman to her parents in Dublin during World War II.
Fifty letters by Emily Moltimore, wife of the British consul in Kerman, are to be published in a book entitled “Letters from Kerman to Dublin”, Qa’ed told on Saturday.
“I stumbled upon the letters once when I was looking for materials about World War II at the British Museum,” he said.
“I provided a copy of each letter, which will be published in Persian in a book for first time,” he added.
“For Iranian readers, it will be interesting to read the letters, which describe the everyday life of Iranians, their customs, and social relations during that period from a foreigner’s point of view,” Qa’ed explained.
He said that the letters were first kept by the Moltimore family in her lifetime, but they were donated to the British Museum by her heirs after her death.
“Letters from Kerman to Dublin” is to be released by the Karnameh Publications in a single volume of about 400 pages.
Qa’ed has previously translated Paul Kennedy’s “The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers” and Barbara Tuchman’s “The Guns of August” and several other books into Persian.
