ONE KIILED IN BOAT ACCIDENT IN INDONESIA

Surabaya, E Java, Aug 10 (ANTARA)- One killed and three missing after Palangkaraya cargo vessel carrying staple food and cement sank 11 miles south-west of Bawean Island, East Java province, Indonesia, on Sunday, but its 17 crew members and 13 passengers were safe.

The dead was identified as Tin was evacuated to Ibnu Sina hospital, Gresik, while the missing are Santoso (cook), Rudi (helmsman) and the third still unknown, Antara learned here on Sunday.

The freighter left Gresik to Bawean port at 8.30 a.m.local time, but the authorities were still trying to find the cause of the mishap.
In the meantime, Hilal, an official at the Bawean port confirmed the accident, and that he obtained the information from two other vessels, namely Caraka Jaya Niaga and Caraka Jaya Niaga, which were sailing from Surabaya to Kalimantan.

Pudiasto Nugroho, chief public relations officer of Gresik port administration said two of the 26 survivors were rescued by Bawean fishermen, while the other 24 were rescued by KM Express Bahari-8 B, KM Caraka Jaya Niaga-11 and KM Caraka Jaya Niaga-17.

The surviviors were immediately evacuated to Ibnu Sina hospital and Muhammadiyah hospital, while the ill-fated ship's skipper Zaelani Fauzi was questioned by the police.

Palangkaraya carried 30 people consisting of 17 crew members and 13 passengers, staple foods, cement, and fertilizers.

In addition, the ship also carried an ambulance of the Bawean hospital, a Honda Jazz car and 23 motorcycles, Nugroho said.
