In Bengkulu city, the mission's activities will include free medical services, and painting local mosques and churches. The hospital ships will call at Enggano island to give free medical services to the islanders, and in Muko-Muko the mission personnel will focus on the reconstruction of religious facilities damaged by the srong quake hitting the area in September last year.
The mission is supported by 600 naval personnel, including 105 marines.
Bengkulu naval base commander Hutabarat said a similar mission will also be held in Padang, West Sumatra, involving a Singapore warship RSS Persistence.
Actually they also planned to call at Bengkulu, but since the waters are not deep enough, they are switched to Padang city, where they plan to build public toilets and washing facilities, a youth hall, and some sports facilities.
