Iran calls on Russia to act based on ‘mutual interests’

TEHRAN, Dec. 27 (MNA)-- In a meeting with Ivanov on late Saturday, Iran`s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi called on Russia to shape its policy toward Iran based on “mutual interests.”

“The Iranian nation expects the Russian officials to make decisions regarding their ties with Iran in various areas based on mutual interests,” Boroujerdi noted.

“Decision-making based on mutual interests… can prevent certain countries from negatively influencing Iran-Russia ties,” he explained.

The top legislator also described the interaction between Iran and Russia in campaign against drug trafficking as “very important,” adding that since the victory of the Islamic Revolution Iran has spent enormous amount of money and manpower in the fight on illicit drugs and still follows this policy.

Ivanov called for closer cooperation with Iran in all areas, particularly in the campaign against drug trafficking.

He also described the measures taken by the Iranian government in this regard as “important and effective.”
