Over 625 physicians apply for self-defense equipment in Iran
TEHRAN, Dec. 28 (MNA) -- More than 625 physicians registered to receive self-defense equipment, an official at the Islamic Republic of Iran Medical Council (IRIMC) announced on Monday.
“Since the beginning of the registration on November 13 to December 22, 625 members of the IRIMC applied to get the equipment by presenting the documents needed,” said Hassan Hoveida, the deputy head of the IRIMC.
Hoveida added, “Out of this number, 427 applicants are male and 198 are female. 305 are younger than 40 years old and the rest are older than 40.”
“238 applicants applied for tear spray and 387 applied for electric shocker,” he explained.
According to Hoveida, the equipment will be given to the physicians after their qualification is verified.
Eearlier, Deputy Health Minister Hassan Emami-Razavi said, “The Health Ministry is agreed that the physicians should be equipped with self-defense equipment” but some conditions must be considered first.
The move came after two physicians were shot in Tehran.
On September 22, heart specialist Dr. Gholamreza Sarabi was shot in front of his office one day after another physician Dr. Abdul-Reza Soudbakhsh was shot dead.
However, there was no link between the two cases.
On September 26, two persons who had been detained on suspicion of murdering Dr. Sarabi confessed to killing.
Earlier, police had said that personal motives were behind the murder.
