Tehran embassy dismisses German foreign ministry claims
TEHRAN, Dec. 30 (MNA)-- The Iranian embassy in Berlin sent a letter to the German Foreign ministry, protesting the way that the news of a meeting between the Iranian ambassador and a German deputy foreign minister has been presented.
The Iranian ambassador to Berlin and the German deputy foreign minister had met to study the possibility that two German nationals, who are detained in Iran, to meet their families.
However, the German foreign ministry spokesperson claimed that the Iranian ambassador had been summoned to declare Berlin’s dissatisfaction with Iran’s refusal to allow a meeting between the detainees and their families.
The two German nationals, who had entered Iran on tourist visas, were arrested in October for trying to interview relatives of Sakineh Ashtiani without having obtained journalistic credentials. Sakineh Ashtiani has been convicted of adultery and murder.
The embassy said the meeting was preplanned. The embassy added it expected the German foreign ministry to rectify the news.
The sister of one of the two men and the mother of the other met the two nationals in Tabriz on Monday.
