Iran`s Majlis opposes appointment of Tehran mayor by interior minister
TEHRAN, Jan. 2 (MNA)--Iranian Majlis did not approve the generalities of a proposal for appointment of Tehran mayor by interior minister.
Out of 217 MPs, 84 voted in favor, 116 voted against and 17 abstained, so the proposal was rejected.
Currently, Tehran City Council elects Tehran mayor.
The majority of lawmakers have said appointment of Tehran mayor by interior minister will be considered a step backward.
