'Tiger Mask' makes anonymous donations across Japan+

YOKOHAMA, Jan. 10 Kyodo - Anonymous donations to underprivileged children in the name of cartoon hero ''Tiger Mask'' continued Monday, with a package of stationery sets delivered to a nursing home in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The stationery sets, including pencil sharpeners and colored pencils, were
accompanied by a letter, which noted under the name of Naoto Date, ''I greatly
sympathize with the Tiger Mask movement. I hope for a bright and healthy future
for children.''
In the cartoon and animation series dating back to the 1960s, Date is an orphan
who becomes a pro wrestler who fights wearing a tiger mask and contributes to
an orphanage.
Since Christmas Day, school knapsacks have been donated by ''Tiger Mask'' or
''Naoto Date'' to children's welfare facilities in Gunma, Kanagawa, Shizuoka,
Nagano, Gifu, Hyogo, Nagasaki and Okinawa prefectures.
After receiving the latest donation, Kazuaki Hiramine, chief of the Yokohama
nursing home, said, ''I don't know who it is, but I want to say thank you. I
will allow children, particularly those who will join elementary school this
April, to use the donated stationary sets.''
