Iranian Revolution boosted self-confidence of German Muslims

Berlin, Feb 14, IRNA -- German Muslims have got a boost in self-confidence thanks to Iran's Islamic Revolution, said a female German Muslim scholar.
Speaking at a round-table discussion at the Iranian Embassy in Berlin on the global impact of the 1979 Iranian revolution, Fatima Ozoguz said: 'The victory of Iran's Islamic Revolution led to a 'new self-confidence among Muslims in Germany.'
Many Muslims in Germany felt as 'second-class citizens' prior to the Iranian revolution, she added.
Ozoguz said that Germany's Muslim community has been increasingly confronted in recent years with the discriminatory measures like the ban on hijab, the insulting anti-Islam cartoons and exposed to threats for the pro-Palestine stance.
The Islam expert said this anti-Muslim mood in Germany made it difficult for the country's Muslims to really feel home.
Ozoguz urged greater efforts among German Muslims 'to boost their self-awareness.'
She stressed the Iranian revolution was 'a sort of renaissance for all Muslims and not only Iranians.'/end
