Turkish president calls for enhanced economic cooperation

Ankara, Feb 14, IRNA -- Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Sunday that Ankara and Tehran have great potentials for expansion of economic and commercial ties, calling for utilizing the potentials.

Gul made the remark in a press conference in Ankara before his departure for Iran.

'Tehran and Ankara have taken important steps for liberalized trade and commerce ties and Turkey pays heed to materialization of these decisions,' he added.

Elaborating on the Turkish resolve to upgrade economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, President Gul said that he was pleased to visit Iran after nine years.

He said that in addition to meeting President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he will meet with secretary general of the Economic Cooperation Organization and secretary general of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (affiliated to the Organization of the Islamic Conference) in Tehran.
