Sanctioners will be hit harder than Iran:Iranian ambassador

TEHRAN, Feb.15(MNA) -- Iran’s ambassador to Japan said that the economic sanctions imposed on Iran will have a greater effect on the sanctioning countries than on the Islamic Republic.

The negative impact of the sanctions will hit the countries and companies which are obliged to implement these sanctions in their trade exchanges, Ambassador Abbas Araghchi said in Tokyo on Monday.

He added that imposing economic sanctions is not an appropriate policy for resolving international issues.

Araghchi also announced that the deputy Japanese foreign minister plans to travel to Iran in late February.

So far the UN Security Council has approved four rounds of sanctions on Iran in order to pressure the country over its nuclear program.

The main bone of contention between Tehran and the West is Iran’s uranium enrichment program.

Iran says all its nuclear activities are totally peaceful, and, as an International Atomic Energy Agency member and a nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty signatory, it has the legal right to produce nuclear fuel for its research reactors and nuclear power plants.
