Iran President: Veto right, disrespect for nations

Tehran, Feb 20, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and German Foreign Minister, by referring to the fact that the United Nations and Security Council are not meeting nations' needs, called for improvement of world governing system upon public participation.

According to the report of Presidential Office website on Saturday evening, Ahmadinejad in a meeting with visiting German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, said that there is suitable ground for cooperation between the two countries, adding that respecting independence of nations and cooperation upon mutual respect and justice are among principles which all nations, including Iran and Germany, should consider in bilateral relations.

Ahmadinejad underlined that current world ruling system cannot continue and there is no clear outlook for world situation under such a system, so the world needs a new system and Iran-Germany can have good cooperation in this regard.

The president continued that Iran will always welcome dialogue with governments and nations who want to have cooperation on world issues upon justice and mutual respect.

He said that current world system cannot meet human needs and stressed that the world needs a human and sustainable order and such an order will be formed when all countries participate in it.
Ahmadinejad said that world ruling system is discriminatory and unfair.

'When a number of countries in the UN Security Council have right of veto, it is clearly a disrespect for nations, so such a system cannot administer the world and even can not continue its work,' said the president.

Iran and Germany, because of their historical past and commonalities, can have good cooperation for planning a world new order and it is expected that Germany stands with the independent nations and governments.

Ahmadinejad said that solution to all problems is dialogue upon logic and justice and added that talks can cause friendship.

The two sides also discussed regional developments and Afghanistan issue and underlined necessity of joint cooperation in fighting against terrorism and drug smuggling.

Westerwelle, by referring to the old ties between Iran and Germany, said that his country intends to find ways to promote bilateral ties and joint cooperation in international issues.

The German FM said that Germany believes confrontation is not a way to solve problems, but cooperation and dialogue are the ways to remove problems, so international cooperation would be necessary.

He stressed that Germany believes that all countries should respect each others' right and the mutual respect is main basis and foundation of world order.

The German senior diplomat said that world problems can be solved only through public participation./end
